Your Stay
Camping
Please park in the front of the house and set up tents in the backyard, toward the field, in the clearing just before the high grass. There is a copper fire-bowl that is probably covered on the back porch. Please return it to this state upon departure assuming it is sufficiently cooled - PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH FIRES IN GENERAL - IF RETRIEVING WOOD FROM COLLAPSED BARN PILE - PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF NAILS, ETC. PLEASE NOTE: ALL CAMPING IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. PATHS ARE NOT WELL LIT AND THE PROPERTY IS NOT YET OPTIMIZED FOR CAMPING BUT WE LIKE TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR THIS PURPOSE IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT ALL LIABILITY.
Bathrooms are off the kitchen and upstairs. See bathrooms/shower below. We ask that campers provide their own linens/towels, etc. so as to avoid the need for housekeeping upon their departure.
Cookware/Kitchen/Eating
Note, the house is a mere 2-5 minute/easy walk to the following:
- Riesbeck's Grocery Store
- Family Dollar (variety store)
- KFC
- Wendy's
- A&W
- Rite Aid Pharmacy
- ATMs/Citizens Bank or Belmont Savings Bank
A well stocked kitchen contains a refrigerator, oven, stove, toaster, coffee maker, food processing and preparation appliances, as well as a variety of serving/prep dishes, flatware, etc. A gas grill is available for use on the back-porch but we cannot guarantee that it always has sufficient fuel. See below...
Bathrooms/"Shower"
The upstairs bathroom toilet may require some jiggling or futzing-with to make sure the water stops running/tank fills, etc. The shower which has been rigged to the claw-foot bath-tub requires some diligence to ensure that water does not squirt out of the tub onto the floor. In time we hope to make some improvements in these areas but for now, we ask for your patience and understanding recognizing that it is a 100-yr old farmhouse with only part-time occupancy. It is not glamorous but has sufficed for many generations of tenants and guests with a great deal of simplistic charm.
General Cleaning/Dishes/Recycling/Trash/Etc.:
Generally we ask that guests pay an additional/minimum $25 to cover the cost of housekeeping.
Guests who do not wish to cover the cost of cleaning services are required to ensure the following prior to departure:
- Towels and linens are washed, dried and beds remade
- All dishes are washed and returned to cupboards
- Floors and carpets are "reasonably" clean
- Lights/appliances are turned-off
- Cans and glass sorted into recycling containers on back porch
- All food items that might spoil or expire and trash from all locations is bagged and placed in large trash-cans typically placed in the backyard/on the back-porch or at the very least, should be bagged securely and left at the bottom of the basement stairs inside the cellar door. DO NOT LEAVE BAGS OF TRASH SITTING ANYWHERE OUTSIDE IF NOT IN A SEALED CAN AS ANIMALS WILL IMMEDIATELY GET INTO IT.
Generally speaking, please make yourself comfortable and enjoy your stay while respecting the items and the history that have made it a home to me and my family for generations. If you simply do your part to make sure that the next guests are able to utilize and enjoy the Guesthouse and help us to ensure the contents of the home are protected from damage, we would be most appreciative as most of the furnishings, books, records, decor, etc. have deep sentimental value to me and my family and are a big part of that which makes it so special to us...and we hope, to you as well.
